Students are invited to suggest ways to reduce social problems such as teen pregnancy, drug and alcohol abuse, the AIDS epidemic, rising school dropout rates, gang violence, the spread of sexually transmitted diseases, abortion, political corruption, homosexuality, media decadence, or other social problems not listed here.
TFC Scholarship awards: The TFC Student Essay Contest offers scholarships for high school students who have a passion to make this a better world by reducing social problems in the USA. Pick one social issue and research the cause and extent of the problem. Suggest ways to help solve this problem using methods that involve moral values and conscience. Scholarship awards are given to the winning students and their schools in the following amount.
Who can participate? Any 9th to 12th grade high school student (public, private, parochial or home-school) in the United States can participate.
What should I write about?
How should I format the essay?
The essay should be 5-7 pages, double-spaced, typed and stapled. Use a cover sheet stating the essay title with name, age, grade level, school name, home address, phone number and email address.
An award ceremony will be held in San Francisco Bay Area (time and place to be announced). Winners and their family and friends are invited to the award ceremony. We will pay for the plane ticket and lodging for the top winner. Other out-of-town winners will need to make their own arrangements for travel and lodging to attend the ceremony. Their presence at the ceremony, however, is not mandatory.
